A Don't

The Hole in 3D, don't see it. Directed by Joe Dante who made "Gremlins". He is supposed to be a sort of "For the family-scary-film" expert. Well, I don't know what his agenda was but I was scared out of my mind halfway through the movie and totally disapponted when everything turned out to be so damn infantile in the resolution. I can't believe that this film allowed for children under 12 with adult company. Especially crappy was that I wasn't there to be scared out of my mind but was rather expecting a sort of "Jumanji" spin to the story. Boy was I wrong.

Lazy Sunday Afternoon

Well if anyone thinks the weather in Sweden is better than here, they are sadly mistaken.

Girls Night Out

Cultural mix to say the least, one girl from Nigeria, one from Tanzania, one from the US, one from Canada, one Norwegian/Scottish and two Swedes. We are not so very different, really.

At School

Well classes have started so I've been kind of busy with getting everything organized. The courses seem intreresting, although they are quite development oriented and therefore there is a chance that the economics part is not very advanced. I don't mind really. This is probably the most boring blog entry to date, but as school has started I have a feeling I'll have less interesting blog material overall.

Some of the girls from class were in Edinburgh on a ghost hunt last weekend, but as we were in Dublin we couldn't join. We're definately going to do that soon. How cool is it to go on a ghost hunt in a town that's almost completely made up of old buldings and castles? Excited!

I don't believe it...

But sadly I kind of do... tragically enough the "somewhat" nationalist party "Sverigedemokraterna" have grabbed 20 parliament seats out of 349 in the Swedish election. We'll see what happens next, but I think I can speak for many when I say that hostility has never helped anyone and that this outcome is pretty alarming.

On a more positive note, the enviornmentally oriented party "Miljöpartiet" is now the third largest party in Sweden. This is making my roomie jump for joy!

"A vacation is like love - anticipated with pleasure, experienced with discomfort, and remembered with nostalgia"

Oh, some summer would be nice now.

Freedom

For The Widows in Paradise, For The Fatherless in Ypsilanti

I was watching old episodes of The O.C and came over this fantastic song. It's so beautiful that it makes me wanna cry. Or at least, almost. The singer/songwriter is Sufjan Stevens. Enjoy!

The Tudors

The show "The Tudors" is actually shot here in Dublin at a church by Dublin Castle. At least the scenes where they are supposedly in the vatican. I was hoping to see Jonathan Rhys Myers. I didn't. Damn.

I wouldn't mind living in a castle

Yesterday we took a tour of Dubin castle.

Mayo

Well. The weirdness of people never ceases to amaze me. Yesterday we went to some bars, it was our last night in Dublin. We decided to go to the infamous Temple Bar area against our better judgement and warnings from the locals. It was packed with drunk tourists and we saw some pretty freaky stuff. Girls without bottoms for one thing. Girls without jackets, when it was 5 degrees celsius out.

But the strangest thing happened when a guy, swedish looking, came up to us and said "Where are you from?", "Sweden" we answered. Then he looked at us and said "Majonäs" (swedish for mayo) and simply left. Que pasa?

Moving on, another incident took place this morning at breakfast at the hostel. This obviously stoned guy made an attemtp to talk to me. Conversation:

Stoned guy: "Are you checking out?"
Me: "Yes"
Stoned guy: "Why?"
Me: "Ehhh because we're leaving?"
Stoned guy: Mumbles incomprihensively
Me: "Huh?"
Stoned guy: Mumbles
Stoned guy: "Can I tell you something before you leave?"
Me: "Eh, ok?"
Stoned guy: "In this whooooooole world", waving motion with his hands
Me: "Yea?"
Stoned guy: "You know, "In this whooooooleee wooooorllldd...."
Me: "Yes, in this whole world what?"
Stoned guy: "Sorry, I smoked too much yesterday... In this whooollleeee world... You know you gave me a headache today, with all your running back and forward"
Me: "Yea, so? The toaster's all the way over there, I'm all the way over here, you do the math"
Stoned guy: "Well, I'm from the United Arab Emirates and in this whoooole world...."
Me: "Will you say it already?"
Stoned guy: "In this whoooooole world.... there are two kinds of people"
Me: " ....."
Stoned guy: "The amirati and the non-amirati"
Me: "Thank you for that valuable life lesson, later" And then we left.

Wish I could present you with some before pictures but, sadly, they are too horrifying.

Dumb and Dumber

Once upon a time there were two girls, who decided to go to Dublin. The girls thought that they could get away with cheap flight tickets with ryan air.

They ordered a taxi at 4.30 in the morning to Glasgow airport, bilssfully unknowing of the fact that there was another airport in Glasgow, 70 km in the opposite direction. One of the girls (won't mention any names, but it was me) thought to herself "Hm, I wonder if there are other airports?" and asked the driver for Glasgow Prestwick airport. The driver paniced and made a U-turn towards Glasgow Prestwick. 45 minutes and a 60 pound cab fare rip-off later, the girls were finally at the right airport.

At the airport, one of the girls (again, me) had packed 1,5 kg too much into her bag. The stupid little girl had to check in her bag and pay 35 gut-wrenching pounds for the extra 1,5 kg she was carrying. An extra 1,5 kg that she didn't really need.

In the end, the trip to Dublin had cost the stupid little girls about 60+35= 95 pounds extra, and was especially heavy on one of the stupid little girls' wallet.

And they lived unhappily ever after.

Look, I'm a giant!

I think the ladies get it.

WTF

What happened to the weather? Schizo I tell you!

Good Morning

Since we are only in Glasgow until December, there is no way for us to get a contract for internet connection. So, naturally, we are hijacking someone elses connection. The signal i pretty crappy and rather schizo, so we never know when we'll have access. Sucks it does, especially for internet druggies like myself. Gotta have it.

Today we are going downtown to fix some stuff before the departure to Dublin tomorrow (yay!). Oh and for the record, the weather here is schizo too. It just started pouring down rain whilst five minutes ago there was sunshine! Have a nice day! We are gonna have a wet one.

The Deathly Hallows

How cool is it that two Harry Potter-Nerds like myself and my roomie Jenny find ourselves located in the very country where the movies are shot? How cool is it that the seventh and final book is cinematized in two parts and the first part premieres whilst we are in this beautiful country? How cool is it? Huh huh?

"Friendship is the only cement that will ever hold the world together"

Got some really great family/friends/classmates back home. Don't have pics of all of them and I really hope I don't decapitated for posting the pics I've got. Miss you guys!

Soon we're headed to see Resident Evil: Afterlife. Love them zombie movies. And of course Mila Jovovic, love her too.

Upon arrival, a little tired are we?

Crosshill baby! This is where we live

Shop, shop til' you drop.

The mandatory umbrella.

The Freakout. It's cold, it's allowed.

How do you like my slippers? Fugly as hell.

So much to do, so little time.

So people, gonna try to get better at this blog thing. We have been here for about a week and I'm gonna recap it quickly for you.
A lot has happened to say the least. We spent sunday shopping, apalled by the enourmous supply of it - and EVERYTHING is so cheap, in a GOOD way. For shopaholics like me, this is Mecca. I mean, come on!
I'll tell you the contents of my shopping bag today to give you a clear picture. I have bought: a leather-like bag, 7 pairs of pantyhoes, a pair of gloves, a cap, and those rubbery-sole things to have in high-heels. The content comes to a total of around 15 pounds. 15 pounds??? The contents of this bag would add up to around 50 pounds in Sweden! I will never be the same again.

As the week carried on, we had our introduction at the Uni of Glasgow. It is so beautiful, dating back to the late 1400's. We managed to sort out or courses and classes start the 20th of Sep. Looking forward to it. Uni of Glasgow is especially good at Development Economics, which is great since it is totally within my field of interest. The courses seem awesome!

We also booked our trip to Dublin. Leaving on wednesday and staying for 4 days! Hope we find stuff to do, as I read that Dublin can be walked across in just half a day! Haha.

So far, we are extremely impressed with what Glasgow has to offer. The people are extremely lovely - giving and friendly! Our landlord Jennifer is the best. However, one thing happened which gave us a pretty good scare. There was a fire in the apartment next to ours, quite a devastating one. The apartment was totally ruined. Ironically enough, our apartment got the least damage, which is lucky for us. Our clothes smell of fire smoke, but no biggie. Another excuse to go shopping.

Yesterday we were at a Loch Ness tour, which was cool. We didn't see Nessie though. :-( We got to see a lot of the countryside of Scotland and it is really fantastic.

So, now I'm gonna try to get some pics up for you. Wish me luck, I'm a blog-virgin.

"I have not a Scooby Doo..."

"I have not got a Scooby Doo, not a clue". Our tour guide is hilarious.

Monsters and stuff

Finally on our way on a mega-touristy Loch Ness tour! The highlands, inverness, castles and Nessie here we come! Hope I don't get eaten.

The Wingman

Jenny, my partner in crime.

We have arrived bitches!

Takeoff

And we're off! On my way to the airport, a little late as usual. Hope we don't get pulled over. I'll try to get some pics up as soon as possible. 

The Seasons Change as Do I

Two days left - and Im off. Off to Scotland, land of the massive beer-drinking, the Loch Ness monster, the incomprehensible accents and well... remains to be seen.

Let the Adventure begin, capital A.

(oh, and I'm gonna have to learn to like beer. Crap)
